This bodyweight exercise strengthens your calf muscles. You perform it by standing on the edge of a stair step and lifting your heels up and down. It also helps your ankles and feet stay steady.

Standing Calf Raise (on A Staircase) demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand on the edge of a step with your toes on the flat part and your heels hanging off the back.
  2. 2Hold onto a wall or railing to keep your balance.
  3. 3Slowly push up onto the balls of your feet, lifting your heels as high as you can.
  4. 4Stop briefly at the top, then slowly lower your heels back down to where you started.
  5. 5Repeat these steps for your chosen number of times.
