Smith Machine Incline Tricep Extension

This is a focused exercise for the back of your arms (triceps). It uses a specialized machine with a bar and a slanted bench. You push the bar up and down to strengthen your arm muscles while your shoulders help keep you steady.

Smith Machine Incline Tricep Extension demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Set the machine seat so the bar sits at the same level as your shoulders.
  2. 2Sit on the bench with your back resting against the pad and keep your feet flat on the floor.
  3. 3Hold the bar with your palms facing forward, placing your hands just a little wider than your shoulders.
  4. 4Straighten your arms completely to lift the bar off the hooks and hold it straight up over your chest.
  5. 5Slowly lower the bar down toward your forehead while keeping your elbows tucked in near your head.
  6. 6Stop for a short second when the bar is at the bottom, then push it back up to the top.
  7. 7Do this movement as many times as your workout requires.
