Dumbbell Upright Shoulder External Rotation

This exercise works your shoulder muscles and upper back. You hold weights, lift your arms to the side, and rotate them to strengthen your shoulders.

Dumbbell Upright Shoulder External Rotation demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand tall with your feet apart. Hold a weight in each hand with your palms facing you.
  2. 2Lift your arms out to the sides until they are as high as your shoulders. Keep your elbows bent a little bit.
  3. 3Keep your elbows in the same spot. Rotate your arms so the weights move up toward your head.
  4. 4Stop for a moment at the top. Then, slowly lower the weights back to where you started.
  5. 5Do this again for as many times as you need.
