Dumbbell Step-up Split Squat

This is a lower body exercise that works your thighs, hips, and calves. You hold a weight in each hand and step up onto a bench. It helps you build strength and improves your balance.

Dumbbell Step-up Split Squat demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand in front of a bench holding a weight in each hand by your sides.
  2. 2Put your right foot flat on the bench. Make sure your whole foot is on it.
  3. 3Push down with your right heel to lift your body up onto the bench.
  4. 4As you stand up, lift your left knee high toward your chest.
  5. 5Stop for a moment at the top. Then, slowly lower your left foot back to the floor. Keep your right foot on the bench.
  6. 6Switch legs so your left foot is on the bench.
  7. 7Repeat the steps, switching legs each time until you are done.
