Dumbbell Step-up

This exercise works your lower body, specifically your butt and leg muscles. You hold weights in your hands while stepping onto a box or bench. This adds weight to the movement and helps improve your balance and coordination.

Dumbbell Step-up demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand in front of a bench holding a weight in each hand with your palms facing you.
  2. 2Put your right foot on the bench. Make sure your whole foot is flat on the surface.
  3. 3Push down with your right heel to lift your body up until your right leg is straight.
  4. 4Bring your left foot up onto the bench so you are standing tall.
  5. 5Step back down to the floor with your left foot first, then your right foot.
  6. 6Do this for your chosen number of repetitions, then switch to the other leg.
