Cable One Arm Pulldown

This exercise uses a cable machine to work the large back muscles (lats) on one side of your body at a time. It also uses your arm muscles to help. You must move slowly and carefully to make sure your back does the work instead of swinging your body.

Cable One Arm Pulldown demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Put a single handle attachment on the high pulley of the cable machine.
  2. 2Stand in front of the machine with your feet spread apart about as wide as your shoulders.
  3. 3Hold the handle with one hand (palm facing forward) and straighten your arm completely.
  4. 4Stand tall with a straight back and tighten your stomach muscles.
  5. 5Pull the handle down to your side while keeping your elbow tucked near your ribs.
  6. 6Stop for a second at the bottom to squeeze your back muscle.
  7. 7Slowly let the handle go back up to the start.
  8. 8Do this for as many reps as you need.
  9. 9Change to the other hand and do the same steps.
