Barbell Wide Bench Press

This exercise builds strength in your chest muscles. It also works your shoulders and the backs of your arms. You need a barbell and a bench to do it. You hold the bar with your hands far apart, lower it to your chest, and push it back up.

How to Perform

  1. 1Lie on your back on the bench with your feet flat on the floor and your back touching the bench.
  2. 2Hold the barbell with your hands wide apart, wider than your shoulders.
  3. 3Lift the bar up and hold it straight over your chest with your arms fully straight.
  4. 4Slowly lower the bar down to your chest while keeping your elbows pointing out a little bit.
  5. 5Stop for one second when the bar touches your chest.
  6. 6Push the bar back up to the top where you started.
  7. 7Do this again for the number of times you want.
